IWSG March: One month to go...

Welcome to the Insecure Writer's Support Group! You can check out the official IWSG website here!

For this month's post, I'm going to rehash a worry I voiced earlier this week in this blog post.

Synthetica is due to be published on the 1st April, and I have A LOT of insecurities around it's release, but my biggest fear right now is that no one will read it.

I'm just so worried that Synthetica will just get lost in amongst the hundreds of other e-books that are released every day, no matter how much promoting I do. What if all my promotion falls on deaf ears?? What if no one wants to read a book by a self published author?? What do I do then??

This fear really does make me feel sick. I've never done anything like this before, so I have nothing to compare it to, or to gauge how well my book promo is going. I don't know how to deal with it. I feel like I'm doing as much self-promo as I can, but what if it's not enough? Do I just keep writing anyway, and hope for the best?

I guess I'll find out soon enough whether or not my book is going to flop. I'll just have to deal with it when it happens.

Have a great month, everyone!

  1. Don't worry about it flopping. Keep on writing and publishing. I think the best thing an indie author can do is working on our inventory list, meaning writing and publishing more books. If you have two books out, you stand a better chance of getting noticed and if you have 10 out, your chances are even better. Don't give up no matter what happens to book 1. Remember, being an author is a long term thing. You can do this. The blogosphere is very supportive and I am sure there are many people willing to help out with spreading the word, including myself. Please don't give up.

  3. There's no way to know what will happen when you release a book. So just enjoy the process, do the best you can, and hope for the best. Good luck!

  6. I'm not saying this to scare you, but you need to brace yourself for the possibility that it may not take off right away. And if not, that's fine. Because you can always continue to promote and advertise after it's been out. Also, if people read it - awesome. If not, that's fine too. But you did something incredible. You wrote a book. And I'm guessing you wrote it as much for yourself as you did for other people. So it's never a waste. Just remember that. Good luck!

    1. Thank you! You're completely right, I just need to stop worrying about it! Strangely, this is pretty much exactly what one of my friends told me when I talked to her about it on the phone - writing a book is an achievement in itself, I just need to remember that more often! Thank you for the advice :)

  7. I hope your release goes better than you fear it will! I also agree with Murees on working on that list of publications. The more your work is out there, the more people who will find it.
