Autumn Days...

It's that time of year again; there's a crispness in the air, the nights are turning darker (and colder), and the leaves are beginning to fall. Yup, that's right - it's the arrival of my favourite season: autumn.

I adore autumn. I love the colours, I love the chill bite in the air, and obviously, I love Halloween. I love waking up in the morning and beginning to feel that stillness in the air that only the arrival of autumn and winter can bring. I love seeing the mist shrouding the fields as a hazy sun begins to rise. Even at 24, I still find this time of year magical. It reminds me of being a small child and going hunting for conkers in the churchyard, deliberately stepping on crunchy leaves in my path (I still do that now too if I'm honest...) and watching my breath fog the air as I walked home at sunset.

There is no real reason for this post, other than to reassure you all that I am still here, and to share my love of autumn with you. I think at the moment, I need to remind myself of all the small things that I know and love - once again I'm having doubts about my writing, and my daytime job isn't going so well. It's at times like these that I simply need to stop, breathe, look around at all the beauty that autumn brings, and then return to my writing/day job with a smile on my face (or failing that, at least the sense that everything will be ok). Sometimes I do tend to get so wrapped up in my own head, I forget about everything else that's out there. But autumn can be so simply breathtaking (when it's not raining that is), I just need to enjoy the here and now.

Have a lovely Monday, everyone!

What's your favourite season? Do you have any childhood memories of autumn?

  1. I am a fully blown Autumn lover myself, when you can smell the dry chill of the season. I love the long drawn out sunsets, and bouncing in the leaves. I love wearing boots, and bobbly hats, and shivering slighting in the unforgiving breeze. I love Halloween, and bonfires, and just everything!

    Happy Monday!

  2. It is a special time of year, except I'm not so keen on the darker evenings - I'm seem to get far less done for some reason as I just want to cosy in. I'm sure you will reconnect with your writing soon.

    1. That's true - I'm not a fan of the dark nights either...unless it's a clear, frosty night and I can see the moon! Thank you very much for your kind words, Suzanne :)

  3. Such beautiful colours in your photos! I loved autumn yesterday when the leaves were crunchy and golden - today they have been sludgy and there's been far too much fog, instead of the gentle mists in your photos.

    1. Thank you, Annalisa! I wish I could take the credit for taking them, but I can't! I'll try and take some of the fells at home when I go back there at half term :). Golden autumn days are the best!

  4. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons too. I definitely prefer the cooler weather. Sorry that things aren't going well. You definitely have a great attitude about it all. Don't get too worked up about your writing. Just take it one word at a time.

    1. I always think I prefer the cooler weather, but by the time March comes around, I can't wait for the sun again! But in summer I get too hot! Thank you so much for your kind words Murees :)

  5. So I just realized that I somehow (due to my--cue sarcasm--GREAT technological skills) managed to stop following you on Twitter. That has now been remedied.

Anyway. I love fall too! It's my favorite season to write (except I say that every season, but I think I mean it the most for the fall). I love seeing the leaves fall and cover the grass and finally being able to pull my sweaters back out. Fall is so exciting too, because it brings with it Thanksgiving and hints of Christmas. There is so much to celebrate! Ahhh, life is so beautiful, and goes by so fast.

    1. Haha! Thanks :D! You know, I do honestly think that sometimes Twitter follows/unfollows people of it's own accord! Autumn is definitely the most inspiring season for writing - thanks for stopping by Anne Marie! You've got me all excited for autumn/Christmas/my birthday now :D!
